How do you have "live update" configured, interactive or the express mode(Control Panel>Symantec)? Try using the mode that is not selected. Do you have the latest version of "live update"(2.0) installed? If it is not 2.0, go to the Symantec website and under downloads, get and install it. You do not have uninstall the previous version to install 2.0.

I've had problems with LiveUpdate twice in the past. Even re-installing didn't help it, what a pain! All I did was go to Symantec's website and they had a tech support section. Here's the link:

Symantec Tech Support

Go to the bottom where it says search support documents, check live update and enter your error message into the search exactly as it appears on your screen. The error message should look something similar to this:

"Error LU1803: LiveUpdate failed while getting your updates. LiveUpdate had an internal error while getting your updates."

That was an error message I got once. I copied that and pasted it exactly into that search utility and I found my solution right away. I suggest you do the same with your error message. You may have to sift through a few like I did, but I found the answer to my problems both times at that site. Let me know if I can help anymore!

I had the same problem: an "internal error" in Live Update when I tried to run it. Kevin, I tried the search of the tech support page but nothing satisfactory came up.

If you type in your error message similar to what I have done above with your error message inserted instead of mine, I'll go over to the site and see what I can find.

This is the error message it gives me: "Unable to connect to host LiveUpdate had an internal error while getting your updates. Your Symantec programs were not updated."

I could use the error code, that would narrow it down a lot. The error code is LU1803 or whatever else number follows the letters LU.
