Problems with AVG 2011

December 29, 2010 at 08:48:27
Specs: Windows XP
I have just downloaded the AVG 2011 free Anti virus ( from version 10) and it appears to have not installed properly. It keeps asking to put in the activation key, which I never got, then states to restart computer, which I do and nothing changes. I have tried uninsatlling it but it just tells me to restart the computer, I have googled everything u can think of to fix the problem, but to no avail - can anyone out there help me????

Reinstall AVG 2011 and reboot. Download a program called revo uninstaller. Uninstall AVG using that program, and allow it to delete registry and other files it find along the different steps involved. Let us know what happens.

Redownload the installer for AVG. What exactly does it say when you try to run setup?

There is no error messgae. I have downloaded AVG free - also tried AVG Trial - both of the programs are saved then when I attempt to open to set them up - a small pop up box comes up & states its exracting AVG files, it gets to 100% then nothing. Nothing opens. No messgaes. The files are in my program list for me to uninstall ( via control panle) and when I attempt to select uninstall, it states I need to reboot to complete installation ( which I have down a thousand times). I have also attempted to do a system restore to the date prior to me upgrading AVG 2011 & it wont do that either.

I had that problem....AVG has a removal tool that will work, it can take some time, and requires some reboots, but it did work when I could not go backward or forward on an install/uninstall. The download was off their site but I type a search for avg removal tool and was sent to AVG's site...it worked.
