I've not really much idea what the message I'm getting when i start the computer means, but I can't, for example, log onto msn to read my e-mails. The problem seems to be with C:WINDOWS\system32\qnuflr.exe

I've done a Spyware check and it found 218 infections! Does that mean i need to buy the programme, i'd rather not if i can help it. What do u think the 'qnuflr' part of C:WINDOWS\system32 relates to?

i forgot to say, the actual message i get up when i log on is entitled '16 bit MS-DOS subsystem' and reads:
C:\WINDOWS\system32\qnufl.exe
The NTVDM CPU has encountered an illegal instruction.

Which scanner did you use? You don't have to pay for a good scanner.

Now that you've done your scans, try this free On-line Spyware Scan
That is the last resort that I use and usually everything runs fine after that.

Here is a list of free spyware scanners that work good, if not better than the paid ones:
Spybot S&D
Adaware SE Personal

Spyware Blaster</a
Malware Remover

Make sure to up-date them before running them, so you get the best results. Good Luck

i used 'spyware doctor' which scanned my computer and found the infections but then it says that i have to register, which i presume means buy the programme, to actully remove the infections

I've also just tried 'spybot-search and destroy'. It said that no immediate threats were found. Could my problem be because i have deleted something off the computer at some stage that i shouldn't have?

I would suggest using all the cleaners (especially the free on-line scan)I listed. I find that most pay scanners will over-exaggerate and try to get you to buy their product. I haven't had any major problem I couldn't remedy since using the free progs. Regular maintenance should keep you running good.
When using Spybot, did you immunize your PC also? Spyware blaster works great also.

Did you try the free online scan I mentioned in response 5?
sounds like you're still having problems with some spyware.
What Anti-Virus prog are you using?
Maybe try a free up-dated
RAV on-line Scan Anti-virus

Hopefully my advice will help you...Please post back with your results....thanks
