problem with windows stalling

Dell / Mxg071

Specs: Microsoft Windows Vista Ultimate, 3.4 GHz / 3069 MB

I have the follwing system :Manufacturer: Dell inc.
Model: Mxg071
OS: Microsoft Windows Vista Ultimate
CPU/Ram: 3.4 GHz / 3069 MB
Video Card: NVIDIA GeForce 8800M GTX
Sound Card: Bluetooth Hands-free Audio

Well actually its got 4 gig of RAM and Core2 Extreme CPU, also got 2 Video Cards in SLI the Dell model number is the XPS M1730.

My question is: I keep getting windows stalling on me, normally after I finish a level in a game, or have finished watching a film. This is when it happens, its only been doing it for a couple of days.

I'm quite savvy with the tech etc. But I haven't come across this before. I don't get a blue screen and I cant get Task Manager to come up. Only way of getting out of it is to force a shutdown with the power button.???

I'm thinking maybe a HD on its way out or something?

If anyone has any ideas on how to diagnose this I would be greatful.

Thanks in advance.

Your problem could be so many things. I would check for a power supply problem or temperature problem. Enter the bios and check the temperatures. Then open the case and make sure there are no dust bunnies around the power supply and cpu. Then remove one of the video cards to check if the power supply is up to the load.

I have the same problem with my mouse pointer stalling, it wasn't doing this until I upgraded Vista to Windows7 on my dell laptop.
