I don't know when this started but I was having problems with both Mozilla Firefox and Thunderbird. I uninstalled them. Reinstalled and they still didn't work right. The problems started I think when I changed ISP's(dialup). I saw something at some point that said something about True Vector whatever that is and noticed that now Zone Alarm won't update itself. There is a notification that comes up each time I connect to the net and when I click onto "update now" the box closes and nothing happens. I dunno what is happening. Now Firefox has become so unstable(almost everything wrong is happening) that I use IE. I can still do somethings(get mail and send mail) throuhg thunderbird but I have to do it manually. If there are any links in the messages I can not click onto them to open it.
Firefox plays up in many ways. Sometimes any gifs/jpgs don't show but most of the time they do, takes longer to load pages, doesn't talk to Yahoo messenger anymore(Yahoo messenger alerts me when I have mail) in that when I click the icon in the systray nothing happens-should open a browser, sometimes there seems like there is a time limit that it wants to operate and then it just closes and won't reopen. When I reboot and reconnect it will reopen.
I don't know what True Vetor is but is this the cause?"The meaning of life is to be happy and useful" Tenzin Gyatso the 14th Dalai Lama

Hard to say what the problem is, but true vector is Zone Alarm. We may be able to help by looking at you computer with Hijack This.
To do so please post a Hijack This log so that the files associated with the virus/spyware/hijacker can be identified.
Please download HJTsetup.exe from this link http://www.thespykiller.co.uk/files/HJTsetup.exe to your desktop.
Doubleclick on the HJTsetup.exe icon on your desktop.
By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Hijack This.
Continue to click "next" in the setup dialogue boxes until you get to the "Select Addition Tasks" dialogue.
Put a check by "Create a desktop icon" then click "Next" again.
Continue to follow the rest of the prompts from there.
At the final dialogue box click "Finish" and it will launch Hijack This.
Click on the "Do a system scan and save a logfile" button. It will scan and the log should open in notepad.
Click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" to copy the entire contents of the log and post it in this thread.Do not fix anything yet unless you know what you are doing. This is a powerful tool that can crash the computer if used improperly.

Btw I forgot to mention I am able to use IE without any problems. I just prefer Mozilla products. Thanks!

I don't see anything in the HT log that could cause any problems. That does not mean you are absolutely clean but is a plus.
If zone alarm is the free version or you can reinstall the pay version try uninstalling both zone alarm and mozilla. Reinstall mozilla first then reinstall zone alarm. You can give it the new permissions if it ask for them.
Be sure to turn on your windows firewall untill you get zone alarm reinstalled. Go to start> control panel> windows firewall and follow the prompts. The windows firewall should be turned off while running a third party firewall such as zone alarm.

rapattack, you may want to try www.comodo.com for their free firewall instead of free ZA. It works real well for me so far and the reports on it are real positive also. Just make sure to clean out every piece of debris from ZA before installing another firewall or you'll have lots of problems
Hopefully my advice will help you...Please post back with your results....thanks

I had a similar problem just a few weeks ago. Firefox would not let me go to any secure sites and then it really started to act up.
I finally backed up my bookmarks, uninstalled, removed all references from the Registry and reinstalled. Now it works. Why it broke after two years, I don't know.
Today seems like a good day to chew through the restraints.

Thanks for the advice will give it a go tomorrow and let you know what happens. I will look into that other firewall but ZA has been so good.
Yeah I have always had the windows firewall disabled. I have the free version of ZA installed right now but I think someone has bought me the paid one so maybe I should give that a go. Hey what do I need to back up and where do I find it for Thunderbird and Firefox? Bookmarks OK will do that. What references in the registry should I look for as I have had problems on some other pc's before when I got rid of ZA and put a different firewall."The meaning of life is to be happy and useful" Tenzin Gyatso the 14th Dalai Lama

for others looking, the last upgrade to zone alarm caused problems here as well. so I downloaded zfix.zip at http://www.greenwood.iwarp.com/sgco... and ran it after uninstalling zone alarm. then installed an earlier version. will wait for a fix from zonelabs, before upgrading again.

Hi I know how to find the bookmarks and emails(inbox etc) with IE/outlook but can't seem to find them in the Mozilla products. Where do I find them so I can back them up before I proceed? Thanks

Ok there is some confusion. Now the trouble seemed to have started when I changed isp's. Maybe just with thunderbird. I can't remember right now but when I tried to locate my "profile" for thunderbird there were folders all over the place. That help section didn't say exactly what I needed to backup either. There is a folder with the old isp and the files have a substantial amount of kb's but the ones with the new isp don't have anything. I know I did some trickery to move stuff to the new isp folders so this may be the problem. I think maybe I just dragged and dropped one inbox to another if you know what I mean within Thunderbird itself? So I am really unclear what to do now. Should I just replace the files from on isp to another outside of Thunderbird the program if you know what I mean?

Ok well I fixed everything today by uninstalling ZA, the Mozilla products and weeding out any left over files. Ofcourse I saved the installation files for everything and the Profiles. I haven't setup Thunderbird properly yet and I realised I didn't save the emails in the INbox. Ah well. Anyway it is all running smoothly now Thanks!

Cool. Thanks for getting back to us.
