I have an ongoing problem which Symantec can't seem to solve. I have tried two copies of Norton AV 2002, the stand alone version and the one bundled with Internet Security. After 1/2 days the program ceases to work. This has happened on my old hard drive and my new Western Digital which we installed last week. I have: checked my computer for viruses using Norton, AVP, Housecall and Kaspersky. I have no viruses. I have run Norton's Klez detection and removal program and get a reading that my computer is virus free. Last week we installed my new hard drive and then Norton Internet Security with AV 2002. Within two days the AV ceased to work AGAIN. And, yes, I did download and put in the new Update version 1.7??? In frustration I've removed all Norton products from my system and installed Grisoft's AVG. Can anyone tell me why this is happening with Norton AV 2002??? Symantec can't.

Have you checked your date/time to make sure the correct year is selected. I know you did not mention having trouble visiting your favorite websites that require cookies, which is the biggest problem if the year is incorrect. It is a long shot possibilty.

My date/time are set at June 18, 2002 with the correct time. I have no problem doing anything on the computer.

Any other suggestions? It seems rather strange this same problem with NAV 2002 would happen with both my old/new hard drives.

I think that you may find that the registry entried controlling the status of your product i.e. Whether it is Tial ware or full version is incorrect.

This could be down to a product "cleaning" the registry like ontrack system suite, fix-it 2000 or any other registry editing program.

Check that the keys bellow are present and disable anything that would touch or clean the registry;

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/Classes/CLSID/E001E264-5579-11d3-B9D4-00C04FAC114C
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/Classes/CLSID/E001E261-5579-11d3-B9D4-00C04FAC114C
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/Classes/CLSID/E001E262-5579-11d3-B9D4-00C04FAC114C
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/Classes/CLSID/E001E263-5579-11d3-B9D4-00C04FAC114C

Hope this helps you out, or gives you another avenue to explore.

Jonathan, you may be on to something here. I have been using Ontrack System Suite on both my old hard drive and the new one.

I assume this would also apply to Microsoft's Reg Clean program?

Thanks,
Denise

I'm sure this is the case, microsofts Reg clean from memory is a little less ruthless but if your worried then I wouldn't touch it either.

If you have any further problems let me know!

Kind regards,

-Jonathan
