I have two computers linked on a home network via a router. On the main PC i have shared the hard drive and mapped this drive on the other PC (so that while on the other PC i have full access the the main hard drive)
My question is, have i left myself open to attacks by sharing the whole hard drive?

If your router and firewalls are configured properly, you're in good shape.
You can test your fiewalls at:
www.grc.com
Scroll down to a program called Shields Up, and follow the prompts.

To enable an outside PC to see a share on your main PC, you'd have to have file-sharing enabled on the INTERNET connection, with NetBIOS enabled in TCP/IP for that connection. If you haven't, firewall or not, your shares are invisible from the outside.
