Got the same thing alot of people on this board are complaining about. I managed to get rid of the antivirus thing but still am being redirected and the computer is running slow and rebooting every once in awhile. Cant load any anitvirus/malware program. Wont let me reload windows defender, or the mcafee active shield so its usless to use the computer. I have one on load right now. For three days now. No one so far has been able to fix this. Dont even think the virus has a name yet. Please help. I am laid off and have been working on this for two straight days with no avail. Forums are a slow way to go, but the only option I have. Dont realy want to pay to take the computer in. Any help appreciated. I will do anything needed as I have all day. Please help.

You apparently didn't get rid of it. You need to disable system restore then do the removal from safe mode.

antivirus 2009 must be removed from the start up menu FIRST..
start/run... type msconfig...click on the "start up" tab...untick antivirus2009...click "ok"....restart the computer in safe mode..NOT safe mode with internet access...shutoff system restore....run Malwarebytes FIRST...then any additional scans ...this worked for me...
good luck

Your the first person I've seen that has gotton rid of this thing. I tried the first responce method and it did get rid of various antivirus 2009 files but something is still lingering. I am trying to go step by step on your responce. I went to msconfig and did not see any antivirus 2009 anything. I restarted the computer in safe mode but dont know how to go any further. You say next thing to do is disable sys restore. Not sure how to go about doing that. I just have a black screen with "safe mode in the corners". How to shut off sys restore from safe mode, my next problem. Off to research. Thanks for the help so far.

ok, I'm turning off sys restore first then going back to safe mode and will try to run malware from cd. I am highly sceptical though.

Its not letting me run malware, spyhunter, softspySE. Wont let me install windows defender because I'm in safe mode. Even renamed the files and tried to run the program. I just get a short blink of the hourglass and nothing. Any suggestions on where to go from here. I was going to reinstall windows xp but my wife advised against it saying I could lose internet and would'nt be able to go online for further advice. I popped the xp cd in and it told me I already have a newer version and if I still wanted to load it to shut the comp off and reboot and follow the cd instructions. When I reboot it just tells me the same thing over again. Do I have to uninstall xp first? How? Will I lose internet? I would rather just get rid of this virus but am going on over 10 hours now with the problem. Been here for at least 3 today. Noone else except you have been able to remedy this. I think its reload xp time(if that even works). Hopefully not though, but I have to admit, I am at the mercy of this forum as I an no comp wizz in the least bit.

this was posted on another thread but, it has good info on the locations of all av2009 files...you may have to navigate to every file and remove manually...
Good luckhttp://www.2-viruses.com/remove-ant...
I would suggest that you disconnect from the internet after getting all the neccessary info and while you are removing them....some of these viruses are receiving commands from websites....
Spybot S&D newest version out.. V1.6... download/install and do a scan...

You said you couldn't run Malwarebytes?
On another thread someone suggested to rename ALL the .exe files in the Malwarebytes folder, THEN run Malwarebytes... this seems to have worked for some people

tried the last two suggestions as stated in earlier posts, as have many others. It hasent worked for anyone yet. Out of all the posts I've read about this (over 100) no one has yet to get rid of this yet. I think it is only a few days old. Have to wait till someone figures it out. Lots of suggestions, but from what I gather its not working yet.
I've been able to rid the nagging "you need pro antivirus 2009" pop ups, also I am not getting redirected anymore either. However I still cant reinstall mccafee active shield(which I had before) or reinstall windows defender. Basically the computer is running slow and without virus protection. So usless!

Renaming the Malwarebytes exe files DID work for this person....Read his last comment in the thread...Good luck

I got rid of it!....Every system and situation is different...you have to find the solution that works for your system and setup...took me 3 days to get rid of it

True, I did read that thread, Infact I posted on it. Had the redirect fixed for a day, now its back. Please let me know when a fix is found. I tried EVERYTHING suggested in this thread and others on this board. As well as other things on other boards. I have no files, registers, processes running that are mentioned in various threads. Malware, spyhunter, etc... wont work. I did rename ALL files with no sucess. Not sure what else to try. Is it possible a windowx xp reinstall wont fix the problem or would that work? Thanks for all the help so far.

Back at it on day 4. Realy I am just trying to reinstall windows xp. With no luck I'm afraid. Seems my version is newer than the version on my disk. Ofcourse, I alwayls update it. I'm sure it is more current than any disk out there. Not sure what to do now. I'm at the point of having to toss my computer. Since I've been laid off for almost a year now I dont realy have any cash to get a new one. Any help suggested. This virus realyl sucks. Never thought it could be so bad.

Well it seems I cant reinstall windows xp. It says the version i have 2002 version service pack 2. I thought service pack 2 did'nt come out till 04. Anyway, I cant seem to locate it to uninstall. I uninstalled service pack 3 and some other service pack(by accident) now my screen looks different(font, res.) and windows media player wont play sound or vid. The nice thing is... is that this virus wont let me acess any download sites. Including microsoft to reinstall service pack 3. Now I'm worse off than before. It looks like I am back to trying to rid this computer of this virus. Please let me know if you have any suggestions as I will have to give back this borrowed comp soon and will basically be out of a computer for the foreseeable future.

Instead of attempting a repair install...format the disk using your windows cd and then install windows.... try to backup any files that you want to save to a cd first....
How to partition and format a hard disk by using Windows XP Setup program
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/313348

I'm off to read about your suggestion. A few questions first. Care to elaborate? Format what disk? Are you talking about making a new xp disk from my old one?

ok, following the directions step by step. First it tells me to insert the dc into the drive(no problem) then reboot so it will start the cd(this never happens). So I open my computer and start the disk that way. Step 2.If you are prompted, select any options that are required to start the computer from the CD or DVD drive... the only options I am given are Install windows xp.. Install optional windows components..Perform additional tasks..Check systerm compatibility.
Step 3 If your hard disk controller requires a third-party original equipment manufacturer (OEM) driver, press F6 to specify the driver. For more information about how to use F6 to supply a third-party OEM device driver while the Windows Setup program is running, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
314859 (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314859/ ) Limited OEM driver support is available with F6 during Windows XP Setup...
not sure what this means but dont think it applies
Step 4 At the Welcome to Setup page, press ENTER.
never got to this page. I see welcome to microsoft windows xp.( I select install windows xp)
I get a box(as I have explained above) that says"Setup cannot continue because the version of windows on your computer is newer that the version on the cd. " "Warning:if you decide to delete the newer version of windows that is currently instaled on you computer, the files and settings cannot be recovered."
I am offered a cancel or details box(I select details)
This is on the details screen"To install the version on the cd, restart your compputer, boot from this cd, and follow the instructions for a new installation.
Warning:the default setup options will replace your existing version of windows with this version. If you wish to keep both versions you must select a new destination folder for this version of windows. If you decide to delete the newer version of windows that is currently installed on your computer the files and settings cannot be recovered" It then shows me some contact info, whick the virus prevents me form going to.
When I do follow these instructions(see above) it starts all over again.
I realy dont care what I loose at this point. I just want my computer back. However I have no cash so I will have to find a fix myself. Doesent look good.
If there is something I am missing, PLEASE let me know.
Thanks for the replies so far.
