prefetch folder

In C:window/ there is a folder called "prefetch" I done a search and sort of know what it does, presearch commonly used url's. Is this from Microsoft? is it spyware? is it needed? Should I delete it and ALL the things in its dir.? Thanks in advance

I delete it every week or so. It just gets bigger. It's meant to prefetch as in a convenience for speeding up the calling of what you command.
