Post virus infection no .exe files work

May 26, 2011 at 17:50:59
Specs: Windows Vista, 2GB
Hello, I've been having a similar problem to the one that many people seem to be having with regards to exe. files not opening!

A few weeks ago the computer came down with a virus whereas every time I clicked on internet explorer or any program for that matter it asked me what program to use and when i would indicate the program it wouldn' would just pretend like it hadn't been asked anything...

^^This is not the problem however, because this was fixed.... I ran the computer in safe mode and used malwarebytes. IT successfully found several infected files and they were cleared.

> FOr the next few weeks all was well except every once in a while when I would do a google search or any search engine search I would be redirected to yellow pages or other advertising sites. < THis is again NOT the reason I'm writing. because the redirection, as problematic as it was wasn't so bothersome when compared to not being able to open .exe files...which is what it has come to.

(I never clicked on any of the links on the sites that they'd redirect me to.)

Anyway, in the last few days the computer has been slowing down so I checked it again with AVG and malwarebytes as well as Glary utilities and a windows restoration tool>> (Mats_Run.ieperformance) for internet explorer

^^Those scans found NOTHING it said my comp was cool though it was ass slow (to put it delicately) > It has never been that slow.

So I restarted it and now.....finally the climax arrived whereas NONE OF MY .EXE files will work...and when I try to start the task manager it doesn't open and I'm greeted with

"Failure - Security Options" Even though I'm running it as an administrator...

I've already looked up some of the similar forums up here and

the reg. file I download from isn't working...again it simply will not open... I mean "merge."

Though my windows explorer is working several items LIKE THE "exefix_vista.reg" will not work....

^^JUst to clarify...when I double click it or right click it and hit mouse starts spinning and it looks like its going to happen....but then it just.....'dies?' if I didn't even hit the button...just back to normal....

I've been struggling with this for the last few days...and my computer is basically inoperable...nothing will god damn open.... its been increasingly any help would be MONUMENTALLY, UNBELIEVABLY, EXTRAORDINARILY helpful.

IF ANYONE can help I would be SOOOOO grateful....

PS. I have windows vista home edition.

Please download RogueKiller
Save it to your Desktop.

Now, close all open programs.

For Vista/Windows 7, right click the file and select: Run as Administrator

When prompted, type 1 and hit Enter.

An RKreport.txt should appear on your Desktop.

Note: If the program is blocked, do not hesitate to try several times. If it really does not work (it could happen), rename it to winlogon.exe

Please post the contents of the RKreport.txt in your reply.
