What's the point of gunning for this "him"?? If you forwarded "him" to Mars another would just take his place. You can configure your firewall not to alert you, it won't, and you can get on with enjoying the Internet/WWW without the angst of trying to "find this butt". Just ensure your security system is running and up to date.

Happy surfing

find the ISP the person uses. The firewall log should tell you that. send that portion of the firewall log to the abuse dept of his ISP. abuse@ispname.com is the typical address.

what is the point of arresting people & putting them in jail? there will just be another crook tomorrow.one step at at time.

The above is all true, however, even through a complaint may seem useless as far as "catching" the guy, it is still very valuable in the long term that the more people who make noise about this problem, the more likely it will be addressed seriously.
Other than that, as long as your firewall is BLOCKING the scans, you're good to go.
Review your firewall logs regularly and examine them for irregularities.
Remember, when you order up a security scan on your PC, your firewall log will go crazy with all sorts of ports scans and other evils.

Be a little bit proactive. For routers and firewalls that log hits, there are programs that can access this information and every day send it to one of two sites that track these hits. These sites just record and track this information to find patterns, but they do track down the top ten scanners and try to get them stopped. And if their computer sees a pattern from a specific IP address, they will generate the abuse report to the responsible ISP.

I have been seeing about one abuse report generated each month based on hits to my router.

For more information on one of these see:

ummm... actually, if you keep putting them in jail, eventually people will learn, or there wont be anyone left to do it. i actually have the same problem, and i would throw the person in jail if i could, and if i ever met them, i'd beat the snot out of'em.
