Comment:

I have a particularly nasty virus/spyware or something.

First, I have been getting alot of popups to some strip poker site.

My system restore will not allow me to go back to any point at all, it just keeps saying that my computer can't be restored to that point.

I connect by cable but while I was on, my phone modem (which was still connected) just started dialing out of the blue? I quickly turned off the PC and then disconnected the phone line.

I'm also getting a message on my taskbar at the bottom saying that spyware activity detected, asking me to click on the yellow button and directing me to some microsoft website)

I have run Spybot, Adaware, CoolWebShredder, Spysubtract, NAV, and have deleted and/or quarantined some things but still have these problems. Normally, I can do a system restore and it is fine but I can't even do that now. Any help at all would be greatly appreciated.

I would suggest to turn off system restore, do your spyware scans and AV scans again and then don't forget to turn system restore back on after you've gotten rid of the nasty stuff.

If you need a simple solution, try mine. I try to give advise on things that have happened to my PC. Glad to have a chance to help you.

Green26, Post a HT log. The analyzers for HT logs still have some bugs and you would usually want to turn off system restore after you have had someone analize your HT log.

You will most likely need to post a Hijack This log so that the files associated with the hijacker can be identified. You can download Hijack This at this link http://www.tomcoyote.org/hjt/ then place it into a folder of it's on, such as C:\HJT, so that back up copies can be made and not clutter your desktop or other folders and the backup copies of deleted items can be easily located if needed.

Once saved double click HijackThis.exe, and press "Scan". When the scan is finished, the "Scan" button will change into a "Save Log" button.
Press that, save the log, Ctrl-A to Select All, and copy its contents into the text editor.

Do not fix anthing yet. Let someone review your log.

These files:

C:\WINDOWS\System32\unlodctl.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\nlsfuncs.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\openconf.exe

Will need some special attention, just deleting them in safe mode wont help and since you are already in line for help at spywareinfo you should wait on them unless someone has some special tools for finding the rest of the files.
