Is there such a thing as a pop-up virus? I am being plagued with pop-ups for Expedia, Nitrous, American Singles, pop-uips that sell pop-up killers. I had a free pop-up killer that I had been serving me well, but I just downloaded Panicware's Pop-Up stopper Professional and I'm STILL getting pop-ups!! I have deleted all files, all cookies, cleaned browsers, I've ran McAfee online virus scan and I'm still getting them. A browser doesn't need to be open for these damn things to appear. I left the computer for a couple of hours and came back to nearly 30 pop-up windows.

There is all kinds of 'Malware' out there that is installed by 'drive by download' that can cause this. Download update and run Spybot Search and Destroy.

Tom,
Cheers for the Spybot lead. I've used the Search and Destroy and I've been pop-up free since I used it.

I have experienced the same issues on various client machines and Spybot has had little to no effect on it.
I plan to try the advice from "Setter" in the "Browser Hijack?" post (7/22), which is:
"I suggest going to http://www.tomcoyote.org/hjt/ and downloading HijackThis. After starting HijackThis, click the scan button which will change into a save log button. Save the logfile and also copy and paste the results back here in this thread. Most items reported by HijackThis are valid, so don’t fix anything yet."
Hopefully that will work.... spybot AND pop-up stopper together have not done the job....

-best advice: pleas format your PC because you have all kinds of spyware in your PC; no matter how much of those ad-removal software you use, it will not matter; those pop-ups sometimes lock themselves in your PC
