go into add remove programs. see if you can remove anything from there.

deleting anything where u think u may have got this "virus". downloads etc.

Try downloading and running Adware or Malware bytes

If you can work out the name of the virus or if u get the exact messages this virus is giving you and its symptoms then usually you can just type it in google and there will several fixes or virus checkers or programs that will be suggested to remove it posted by people who have experienced the same thing.

Also you could try AVG anti virus. Think there is a free 30 day trial for it on the internet.

Hope this helps

thank you, but I can't even get into windows--I choose safe mode, and it opens to a screen with a bunch of file extensions listed, and freezes there.

"it opens to a screen with a bunch of file extensions listed, and freezes there."

if you have a high speed connection and are plugged in via ethernet, tap f8 on boot-up and choose safemode with networking. Depending on how infected your PC is, it may take up to an hour for safe mode to work....be patient, it will work.

Once in safemode, use msconfig and uncheck all startup items.
Don't reboot yet. Download these 3 free apps and run them
1- Malwarebytes
2- Trojan Remover
3- Hitman pro
Run those till they are clean and then reboot.

I would try Avast free instead of AVG, much better real-time protection as well as no needed scans

Some HELP in posting on Computing.net plus free progs and instructions Cheers
