Personally I would stay away from compaq , too many problems and bugs with this system in the past
As far as the newer systems I cannot say , I have no experiance with the new stuff

I've had a Presario 700 laptop for about 2 years of heavy business use & it's never let me down - battery won't hold a lot of charge now so I'm replacing that soon & will look forward to a lot more use. Backup is good - I didn't get full restore disks when I purchased it, only a restore partition, but HP/Compaq support sent me the correct disks for free, including postage & that was only about 6 months ago. (I wanted to reinstall from scratch when SP2 came out & wanted the disks just in case of probs)

Wah so good! They want me to contact my own HP here and the HP here call me to pay 400+ just for the recovery cds! So expensive!

Hi! Forgot to mention! Johr, at above statement, you wrote that the battery lost power fast! Does that mean that even you didn;t do anything and you just open ur computer with the lid open, the battery will gone just in 20mins?
Coz I am experiencing this problem but not sure whether that is the causes of it! Cozi I heard that Pentium 4 machines will drain power fast!
I am using COmpaq Presario 2500 Series!

No, the battery problem is purely down to age - rechargeable batteries have a limited lifespan & the time they hold their charge gradually decreases. I've been using the laptop just about daily on business for 2+ years now & the life has been going down for the last few months. New one is about £55, just haven't got around to ordering it yet. As far as the Pent IV chip is concerned, I'm no expert on this but I believe that if it's a dsktop chip in your laptop then it will use more power. More recent laptops use the mobile versions which use less.
