OS: Windows XP

Model/Manufacturer: Compaq Presario
Comment:

I think I have a virus. 2 issues lead me to this.
1. Tray icon that states "Critical System Errors" and when I click it, brings me to Virusbursters web site.
2. Redirect my home page (google) to "yourieprotect" website and installs a toolbar on IE that I can't remove.

What I've done:
Run McAfee Virusscan
Run Ad-Aware
Run Spybot Search and Destroy

Nothing has worked so far. Please help!

Please post a Hijack This log so that the files associated with the virus/spyware/hijacker can be identified.

Please download HJTsetup.exe from this link http://www.thespykiller.co.uk/files/HJTsetup.exe to your desktop.
Doubleclick on the HJTsetup.exe icon on your desktop.
By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Hijack This.
Continue to click "next" in the setup dialogue boxes until you get to the "Select Addition Tasks" dialogue.
Put a check by "Create a desktop icon" then click "Next" again.
Continue to follow the rest of the prompts from there.
At the final dialogue box click "Finish" and it will launch Hijack This.
Click on the "Do a system scan and save a logfile" button. It will scan and the log should open in notepad.
Click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" to copy the entire contents of the log and post it in this thread.

Do not fix anything yet unless you know what you are doing. This is a powerful tool that can crash the computer if used improperly.

Please download SmitRemFix from this link http://siri.urz.free.fr/Fix/Smitfra... Then extract the contents to your desktop.
!!!! Only run option #1 as runing the other options on an uninfected computer will damage the desktop.!!!!
Open the "SmitfraudFix" folder and double-click "smitfraudfix.cmd"
Select option #1 - Search by typing 1 and press "Enter"; a text file will appear, which lists infected files (if present).
Please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply.
Note : process.exe is detected by some antivirus programs (AntiVir, Dr.Web, Kaspersky) as a "RiskTool"; it is not a virus, but a program used to stop system processes. Antivirus programs cannot distinguish between "good" and "malicious" use of such programs, therefore they may alert the user.

Everything went well, but it sure seems like the computer is running REAL slow. That may be just because I've added all these programs, but wanted to let you know anyway. Took forever to boot up (in normal mode)

Please download VundoFix.exe to your C:\.
Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.
Click the Scan for Vundo button.
Once it's done scanning, click the Remove Vundo button.
You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click YES
Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
When completed, it will prompt that it will shutdown your computer, click OK.
Turn your computer back on.
Note: It is possible that VundoFix encountered a file it could not remove.
In this case, VundoFix will run on reboot, simply follow the above instructions starting from "Click the Scan for Vundo button." when VundoFix appears at reboot.

Post the log located at C:Vundofix.txt.

Navigate to this folder and delete it:

C:\e0dda6b4b497f49e36

Then navigate to this folder C:\WA6P and open it, make a list of the files especially any .exe files and post what you find please.

Please run Hijack This> click "open the misc. tools section"> check both boxes to the right of "generate startuplist log" then click on generate startup list log> yes>copy/paste that log and post it please.

Please run Hijack This> click "open the misc. tools section"> click "open uninstall manager"> click save list> click save and post that log please.

Download the latest version of http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads/index.jsp

Scroll down to where it says "The J2SE Runtime Environment (JRE) allows end-users to run Java applications".

Click the "Download" button to the right.

Check the box that says: "Accept License Agreement". The page will refresh.

Click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation with or without Multi-language and save to your desktop.

Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.

Go to Start > Control Panel double-click on Add/Remove programs and remove all older versions of Java. Check any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name. It should have the "coffee cup" icon next to it.

Click the Remove or Change/Remove button. Repeat as many times as necessary to remove each Java versions.

Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed

. Then from your desktop double-click on jre-1_5_0_09-windowsi586-p.exe to install the newest version.

The only WA6P folder I found was this one:

NI.UWA6P_0001_N91M1807 in C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Local Settings\Temp

There were no files in it.

Hijack This startuplist:

Navigate to this folder and delete it:

C:\WA6P

Go to add/remve programs and uninstall this program (unless you know what it is and have specifically installed it):

Safety Alert 2006

Reboot the computer and let us know how your computer is running.

The only WA6P folder I found was this one:
NI.UWA6P_0001_N91M1807 in C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Local Settings\Temp

There were no files in it. Should I delete that?

Got rid of Safety Alert 2006. Computer seems to be fine now. Slow, but fine. Should I delete all those programs now, like Hijack This, ATF Cleaner, AV-Gas, AVG-AntiSpyware, Spybot, AdAware, and Combo fix?

Yes delete it and I would keep ATF-Cleaner.

After you uninstall the programs, empty the resore folder again, run ATF-Cleaner in normal mode then do the following.

Please download Dr Web CureIt to your desktop from this link ftp://ftp.drweb.com/pub/drweb/cureit/drweb-cureit.exe
Doubleclick the drweb-cureit.exe file and Allow to run the express scan.
This will scan the files currently running in memory and when something is found, click the yes button when it asks you if you want to cure it.
This is only a short scan.
Once the short scan has finished, mark the drives that you want to scan.
Select all drives.
A red dot shows which drives have been chosen.
Click the green arrow at the right, and the scan will start.
Click 'Yes to all' if it asks if you want to cure/move the file.
When the scan has finished, look if you can click next icon next to the files found:
If so, click it and then click the next icon right below and select Move incurable.
This will move it to the %userprofile%\DoctorWeb\quarantaine-folder if it can't be cured. (this in case if we need samples)
After selecting, in the Dr.Web CureIt menu on top, click file and choose save report list
Save the report to your desktop. The report will be called DrWeb.csv
Close Dr.Web Cureit.
Reboot your computer!! Because it could be possible that files in use will be moved/deleted during reboot.
After reboot, post the contents of the log on your desktop.
