|I am helping a friend with a Dell optiplex 755k. The owner recently passed away. When turning it on I have found a "HD1 PASSWORD" before windows starts loading (which is a hard drive password I’m guessing). There was also a password on the BIOS.|
I reset the CMOS and successfully cleared the BIOS password.
It still prompts me for the hard drive password. After entering the wrong password three times it tells me to “Enter HD1 Master Password.” When I get that wrong it goes to a copyright screen, then says “operating system not found”.
Here are some of my attempts to fix it:
The computer still prompts me for a hard drive password. I changed the boot order so the CD-ROM and Floppy boot first.
I put in the Win XP Pro cd disk and powered on. It asked for the passwords then went black.
I put in the Win XP Pro floppy boot disks and powered on. It asked for the passwords and then it went to a command prompt screen off of the floppy drive (a:). It wouldn’t recognize drive C.
So I can’t format it!
I then called Dell. They wanted a error message code that was supposed to appear after three error messages. It didn’t appear and I had to hang up.
I put the hard drive in an IBM notebook. The hard drive did the same thing on the other computer.
I’m stumped. Please help!
