With a test programme regarding the safety of the computer against intrusions the PING PORT is apparently open. How can this port be closed ?

The computer is connected to the internet with a wifi philips apparatus

Hi Willem,

I use ZoneAlarm as my firewall for my wirelessly connected pc.

I regularly do a port scan here:

Ideally the result you need is that all ports are stealthed. This means that your pc is online and your ports are open but your pc refuses to respond to any pings.

If you have a firewall it's meant to keep your pc hidden from any kind of intrusions.

P.S. Never run 2 firewalls as they can conflict with each other.

I have used Shields Up to test the co,puter in question and found that ping was not stealthed. I found the IP address advertised. Then I ran IPCONFIG from the command line. This returned internal IP addresses from the range 192.168.x.x.

In the Zonelabs Forum I found a message that I interpreted as follows: It is possible to ping the wireless router/modem but not the computer. So the compuer cannot and the wireless router/modem can be pinged.

Am I right ?

Yes... Your router hardware should have firewall features of its own... it's important that your pc remains stealthed with its own firewall even though your router can be pinged. It needs to be acceessable to pings for your connection purposes.
