Comment:

I recently cleared my computer of the Pinfi virus. My computer has been clean for days and everything is almost back to normal. The one problem I am having now is that somehow the virus disallows access to the Program Files and WINNT folders. Not being totally braindead about computers, I know these are important folders. It has also severed any access to Windows Update, some Microsoft Pages, Add/Remove Programs, and the Security settings in IE6. Not to mention anything I haven't gotten into in a while. Any ideas would be appreciated...

Has the virus changed your account settings? you may need to use the "run as admin" function to gain access. check if you can use MMC.

I cannot run the MMC... I am fairly sure the virus wont allow this to work. The actual error message is "The procedure entry point could not be located in the dynamic link library KERNEL32.dll" But at least the copmuter is running now...

Thanks

OK. Here is some words from Sematec about it.

Depending on how long it's been on your system you may be better off doing a Nuke&Pave

you might try some online scans like HouseCall
Panda
