I've been notice little changes on my computer when I'm not using it or am away from it,i have a feeling someone i know is tracking me.

How can I be sure this person is not tracking me? I already know of keyloggers and how Trojans work but i don't see any traces of connection activity in tcp view, i need some kind of heavy security program to keep an eye on suspicious behavior. I have packet sniffers too but what good is a packet if you cant read what it contains?

Windows xp security sucks i know that too well. And I definitely know I can't trust the windows logon i know how easy it is to bypass so i use the bios password for now but that can be bypassed easy with movement of a jumper. I need some really free decent security programs. I already know of the usual stuff (ad-aware, spybot, webroot,avg,etc...) Thats not the tools im looking for because they are too commonly used I need something better. This seems to be something that is a custom made "threat". If this threat is in fact custom then anti-virus wont do squat to protect me because its undetectable.

I'm sure there maybe hidden processes from the task manager as well. I'm doing searching myself on Google but if anyone has any links to nice security programs that would help a bunch. (yes i saw the ones in the top of the computing.net security forums page but like i said before this is a more complex problem and need better tools.)

I know this person has been f-in with me for a long time and I want to catch em and then
break their legs.

Sorry if i seem a bit edgy but this has been going on for too long and i need it to stop,
starting with collecting information.

Just think about how you would feel if all your personal info was taken from you and used as their enjoyment. Some wouldn't care but to some it can be a threat. I see it as a threat and need to stop it at the source.

Reboot the PC, open a command prompt and run netstat -an

Download and run, Hijack This from Trend Micro and anti malware from www.malwarebytes.org

Post the output(s) if you don't understand it.

In addition to guapo suggestion above, also tell us if you are:

1. running a firewall that intercepts both inbound & outbound traffic, and
2. Behind a router with NAT or DMZ enabled.

You can try couple of the freewares that are listed below.

1. Rising Antivirus free edition from www.rising-global.net. I am using this as my primary A/V and it is really good.
2. Smartcop antivirus from www.s-cop.com.
3. sysclean package from trend micro.

Hope this helps.

Thanks,
Balaji.

Just out of interest, what little changes have you been
noticing? Is it the sort of work you'd associate with a human
hand, or more random effects in line with a virus or
infection? Without some idea of the symptoms, it's hard to
troubleshoot the solution.

It sounds like you have a fairly sound grasp of the cautionary
measures to keep yourself safe from attacks. What firewall
are you behind, if any?

So by physical, do you mean that someone actually has physical access to the computer? You said "This seems to be something that is a custom made "threat"" In what way? What type of behavior are you seeing that makes you think someone is "tracking you?

Thanks for trying everyone, but this was something more serious then any regular threat. I already had hijackthis, and malwarebytes before i posted this.

When i said custom made i ment it hides itself really well from AV/Network Scanner/registry entries.

This can be done, I've done it with custom made Trojans/malware before, making them undetectable by av/scanners.

But read below and find out what the threat actually was.

To Response Number 6, Thanks for your useless input. Keep your foolish comments to yourself, if you have nothing useful to say.

To Response Number 7, I did care about it. I just had some other things to take care of. I was doing more research myself. I also just posted here to see if anyone had any ideas. Not to say that these are bad ideas just that I've tried these methods already and non of them work.

I found out who it was and what it was, someone (will not say name here) apparently had a hidden pinhole cam hidden in my computer area which was unnoticeable by the naked eye until i thought of it and did a thorough search looked around for one. It was placed so well it could see my computers screen. I was impressed at how unnoticeable it was first and then pissed afterwards.

They will be charged and fined to the full extent of the law.

Like I said I take security very seriously, now I'll be even more secure about my surroundings as well as my computer.

I'm going to format and switch to Linux while I'm at it. Bye.
