I have a serious problem, I downloaded a piece of software from Kazaa, installed and ran it, then i noticed that the "my shared files" folder for Kazaa had some problems. The .exe files' icons were not showing up as they had earlier. I checked with pc-cillin if one of the files was infected, it said it wasn't but kept running and found a file infected with PE_PARITE.A virus. I then did a complete virus check on my computer, cleaned some infected files, but others (the .tmp file which dumps the virus and files in C:/_RESTORE with extension .cpy) were in use and could not be disinfected. I then located the registry key the virus had dropped in, deleted it and was then allowed to delete the .tmp file.

When i checked the web-page for the details of the virus, it gives no indication that the virus will come back, yet when i rebooted the computer, the reg key and tmp file had been replaced and even more .exe and .scr files had been infected. We have been trying to kill processes and delete all the infecected files but we have now hit a dead end, is this a more destructive strain of pe_parite.a? Can anyone suggest anything? Please help!

Follow Cat's advice, and then get either get rid of Kazaa, or learn to scan every download. Kazaa has Virus/Trojans/Worms that are specific to it, so you must be very careful. Make sure you have it configured to deny sharing with your system. Take care!

Try booting into safe mode and running your antivirus.
It is probably unable to clean the infected file(s) that is/are running in the background.
