I was at my brother's house last month and was working on his computer since they were having problems getting online. Their Norton Antivirus had expired about a year ago. I removed Norton and installed AVG and it cleaned about 6 or 7 infected files (Trojan horse IRC/ BackDoor.SdBot.81.1). They had just got online recently with PeoplePC. Since their hard drive was so small I ordered a new 40 gig hard drive and installed Windows XP on it. I tried to install PeoplePC with the disk they got in the mail but it would also stop at the configuring email. I talked with their Tech Support and they said to download their new software. They talked me though to create a DUN connection and told me the webiste to get the new software. I went to the website and started installing their new software. As it was installing, AVG popped up and said there were a couple infected files. I looked at the date and time stamp of these files and it was at the same time the software was installing. The installation did not complete since it just froze up again. So right now they just use the DUN which seems to be working fine. I also installed zone alarm on the computer. There hasn't been anymore viruses since I haven't tried to download their software again. Since I know there are other people here that use PeoplePC, have you experienced anything like this?

you should just leave it the way it is, you'll get the best performance using DUN and IE than installing their sw and built in browser. The overhead they install (not just them) actually slows the connection. To answer your question though, no, I haven't ever used them.

Yes I agree. It just seemed like their software package was infected. I don't want other people to have problems with Trojans.

You are the second post I have read with this problem. I believe it is a problem with the antivirus program. Sometimes, rarly, they will scan a legitimate file and think its a virus. I have had it happen with javascript, and several webpages, and have also heard that PeoplePC has this problem to. I will dig for the post, and put a link to it, I believe their prevous advice will apply just the same to your instance.

Actually, I think this is your old post, Dave. Are you still having problems with this same issue?

Ian, you're correct - its Dave's first post.
Dave, how come you did not made any reference to it?

Yes basically it took a while for my brother to tell me the name of the virus that infected the computer. Since the first post was so old and I figured nobody was watching it, I did the second post. I have heard other people on here that also use PeoplePC and was curious if they had any problems.
