I was at my brother's house last week and was working on his computer since they were having problems getting online. Their Norton Antivirus had expired about a year ago. I removed Norton and installed AVG and it cleaned about 6 or 7 infected files (backdoor viruses). They had just got online recently with PeoplePC. Since their hard drive was so small I ordered a new 40 gig hard drive and installed Windows XP on it. I tried to install PeoplePC with the disk they got in the mail but it would also stop at the configuring email. I talked with their Tech Support and they said to download their new software. They talked me though to create a DUN connection and told me the webiste to get the new software. I went to the website and started installing their new software. As it was installing, AVG popped up and said there were a couple infected files. I looked at the date and time stamp of these files and it was at the same time the software was installing. The installation did not complete since it just froze up again. So right now they just use the DUN which seems to be working fine. I also installed zone alarm on the computer. There hasn't been anymore viruses since I haven't tried to download their software again. Since I know there are other people here that use PeoplePC, have you experienced anything like this?

They may not have been actualy virii. AV software also works off of heuristics meaning that it looks for characteristics and if a file meets certain criteria the av deems it a threat. There may have just been something like activex or a vb script in the install that caught the eye of the av.

Possibly but it called it a backdoor trojan. The file was being copied to the system32 folder. Once my brother gets back from his trip, I may have him get the exact name of it.
