hi there,

i have the following problem since last night: my pc shuts down and reboots every few minutes without showing me any error message.

it's a bit strange - if i just leave it running, it may take ten minutes, but if i start my antivirus program the pc usually shuts down after one or two minutes. that means a full av-check isn't possible...

dunno if this could be a virus or maybe just some f***** up hardware ... maybe anyone of you knows better??

thanx for your help!

Try to download stinger from http://vil.nai.com/vil/stinger/ you might have time to run it.

Let us know how you get on.

If I dont know, somebody will.

hm... that doesn't work.
downloaded stinger - then business as usual. the scan was interrupted and the pc rebooted.

i have the feeling that each time i run a program (anti-virus program, game etc.) the computer shuts down...

sometimes when the computer reboots, chkdsk is running... but i still don't get any error messages.

looks more like a hardware problem, hm? any ideas?

thanks for your help...

Can you boot to safe mode? Does it stop rebooting then?

Can you review the event log for the messages when your pc reboots?

Can you boot from CDROM and do a full chkdsk?

Once in safe mode can you change your system so that it doesn't automatically reboot when the system crashes?

hi jeruvy,

thanks for your reply.

that's the situation right now: the problem got worse - i couldn't even reboot the pc last night without getting one of those bluescreens. so i contacted a friend of mine who works as a computer expert for hp. he advised me to format the harddisk, which i did, and reinstall windows. but not even that works - i get a bluescreen during the setup process...

it says something like "PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA"... i'm really at a loss at the moment...
