Dear group:
I have Norton 360 installed. When I click the 'fix' button nothing happenes. I ran AVG and Trend Micro online virus scan and according to those programs my PC is no longer infected. But I still cant get my Norton 'auto-protect' to come back on.
I go to Norton 360 'task and settings' and check the box 'turn on auto-protect' and click apply. I close this window. Then I can go right back to same window and auto-protect is unchecked again.
Even though AVG and House Calls said the computer was no longer infected Norton 360 PC Security is still not fixed.
i'm not sure i understand your situation. norton 360 finds something malicious, but it can't fix it, right? if so, i recommend you to run another anti spyware. i know, i know, you've already done that, but i don't really trust avg and i find trend micro online scan reliable. so as long as trend micro scan found no viruses, your problem must be some other malware. if you're not sure what anti spyware to try, you can get some free anti spyware here, it won't cost you, so it won't hurt to try.
kwlakey, you may want to try avast free. Download it to your desktop install it and let it do a bootscan and move everything to the chest. I am also not an AVG fan although many people use it. You would probably do yourself and your PC a favour, uninstall Norton (using the uninstaller from their website) and trying avast, coupling that with Comodo Pro free firewall....they work great together. You can find those in the red link listed on one page for easier downloads. Good luck
I would uninstall Norton...clean up the system then reinstall Norton.
Think about it....If you were a virus writer would your virus search and disable Norton,Mcafee and the rest...or would it allow them to find and destroy your virus.
Bet Norton took a hit. I have yet to find a anti virus program that when not running is free from getting attacked.
If an anti virus program is not running, it's just like any other exe.
hi guys I have the same problem with Norton 360, the auto-protect will not come back on. I am not sure what to do. I am a single mother and a student and cannot really afford to keep going out and buying anti-virus for my computer. I understand what you are saying by uninstal and then reinstall, but I am not the computer whizz and wondered if you could elaberate more on what I should do. Thanks help much appreciated Michelle
I am not a computer wizz either but for several years I have used a virus scan program called HouseCalls. Some viruses disable your antivirus software. That was what happened to me a few times. When viruses disable your antivirus software then the antivirus software will no longer detect certain viruses.
Are you with me so far?
So there are several companies that have a way to run a virus scan program online. I like HouseCalls and it is set up by a company called Trend Micro. Go here and follow the directions. It is not very complicated at all.
