have suffered a complete disk wipe that included bios partitions...HD wiped 100% -unreadable......but reusable....
Could virus be responsible for a no-warning attack?
Advice to prevent please.

Sounds like a fully destructive virus, but go to
www.housecall.antivirus.com and run a FULL scan of your PC and see what it reports.
