I may be a bit paranoid, but after downloading Kazaa, then getting rid of it 3 days later because of ad-bug (downloaded Kazaa, connected to Internet, before I did anything, pop-up ads from hell, could not do anything b/c of system overload, downloaded Ad-Aware, got rid of pop-ups) BUT NOW, doubleclick.com & fastclick.com are comming back to haunt me.
Ad-Aware dectects these supicious txt cookies on temp EVERYTIME I GO ON THE NET.
I have Norton, Ad-Aware, BUT I STILL DO NOT FEEL SAFE! I run AD-Aware before and after each Internet usage.I just downloaded Fireworks free trial from www.macromedia.com and now there is a strange start-up icon on my start menu.
I have dial-up and it took 1.5 hrs, looked at properties on this new menu and it looks like this:
%SystemRoot%\system32\control.exe appwiz.cpl @0,3
WHAT IS THAT!!??
I cannot run the free Macromedia trial b/c of a missing VBox file.
Any suggestions?
Am I being over paranoid b/c of KAzaa crap?Any suggestions would be very much appreciated.

Another tool to cure kazaa problems is Spybot search and destroy. It is free and available at wilders.org in the free tools section. When you install it click "online" tab and "search for downloads"You don't need the language files.Download the updates then click "search all".Sometimes it finds programs that Adaware misses and vice-versa.It also backups what it deletes in "recovery feature.Hope this helps.JB

Kraig, cookies aren't really anything to be alarmed about but you should be able to stop the downloading of doubleclick and fastclick's useless cookies by doing this. Go to internet options--security tab--click on the 'restricted sites' zone then click the 'sites' button. Then add the following including the asterisk and ok out:
*.doubleclick.com
*.doubleclick.net
*.fastclick.com
*.fastclick.net
"WHAT IS THAT!!??"
What is what? It looks like Fireworks added itself to your add/remove programs list so you could uninstall it if you wanted. Control.exe is the file that opens your control panel and appwiz.cpl is the control panel applet for add/remove programs. Maybe the icon uninstalls the program or turns it on I don't know. Click on it and see.

You may find more info on the diseased Kazza and what it leaves on your PC & removal details here...

I am told 'Kazaa lite' is the same program without the spyware.
I also believe there is no spyware in Morpheus and Winmx, but you will have to check for yourself.
A free Trojan scan might also be in order...
