Subject: Page Cannot Be DisplayedOS: XP Pro w/SP2CPU/Ram: Celeron 2.4/256 |
Comment: Hi there everybody. I've had a problem for the last few days and I've searched these forums and others but nothing had an answer that worked for me. When I try connecting to a certain website with ANY browser, it tells me that the page cannot be displayed. I've followed IE's instructions as to how to adjust my encryption settings, the SSL stuff, and firewall setting to no avail whatsoever. The REALLY funny thing about this is that every other computer on my network can get to the website without any problem. I've cross-referenced the security settings and whatnot, but it STILL doesn't work. Turning off or disabling any sort of firewall didn't help either. It must be something in my network settings somewhere, but I've tried everything that I know (which isn't a WHOLE lot) and nothing works. Can ANYBODY help me out with this? This is the 3rd forum I've posted on without so much as a reply. No replies tell me that this question is so stupid that it doesn't deserve an answer, or that this problem isn't able to be fixed. Could someone tell me one way or the other?

Reply: (edit)tallums, Anybody here ;-) Have you checked your 'HOSTS' file, for this address? You did say, this was a network, yes. What type of network? Hmm, won't connect with any browser. Can/May we have this sites address. That's if it isn't private. And this is the one and only address, that doesn't work? You said firewall, but do you use/run anything else that might block this. I guess, it might help others to know this address. That's if you can. Who takes care of this network? When it comes to networks/networking. You know a lot more than I ;-) The proper forum, for this question. Would either of been the Networking or maybe even the XP forum. Well, I think you might of had more responses that way.

Reply: (edit)Holy cow, a response ;) Well I take care of the network, but I just got hired on monday of this week, so I've been here for a total of 4 days now. Yes, this is the one and only, and the website is www.onlinefilefolder.com. It's the method that our company uses to backup their server. I didn't wanna use it because really important information REALLY shouldn't be stored online. Anyhow, I think I WILL take this over to the networking forum. I'm sorry to clutter this one up. I thought that it had to do with the browser, but that's not it I guess. Thanks a bunch, Crazy!

Reply: (edit)Seems that you haven't moved it yet. I had a look at that site, my only problem is it wanted a login, which I don't have. As you are the new network admin, this may be a test of your ability. It might also be a prank from your felow workers. It may also be sabotage by the person who used to have your job. If you wanted to do this, how would you achieve it? Can you ping the site? I'd be looking at the hosts file and the router.

Reply: (edit)I have 2 users having the same issue when they go to www.ups.com. They randomly get the page cannot be displayed error on different pages on the site, if they refresh a couple of times the page will show up. Sometimes the pages will come up but it looks like the text isn't formatted, almost like its not looking at a Style Sheet or something thats embedded. These are the only 2 I know of having the problem and they only notice it on this site. I've tried several things, clearing temp files, resetting security settings, tried Netscape same issue, upgraded to XP SP2 nothing changes, ran a repair on winsock, repair on IE, host file is fine. The only program that is different on these 2 machines is their both running a program called Impact Attendant not sure if that has anything to do with it, its Comdials phone software. Any other suggestions would be appreciated. We don't have a proxy and the browser connection setting are set to Automatically Detect. Thanks.
