Open with problem

Specs: Windows XP, amd dual core 3.0 gig 1 gig ram
I had a malware called XP antivirus Pro 2010 (av.exe) which i finally got removed.Ran avg 8.5 free and cleaned.On a reboot all my icons when double clicked on the open with window comes up.i can highlight/right click/start and the programs will run that way and in control panel i get a rundll32.exe error (application not found) when i try to open most.Also did a registry restore off a good backup and still have the problem and my system restore has always been turned off so Any help will be greatly appreciated

i ran the reg file and rebooted, avg starts now,able to turn firewall back on and access items in control panel.The only desktop icon that doesnt work ( still goes to open with) is internet explorer.Any ideas on that one?
The only way i can run IE is to right click and run w/o addons

rwilson, That's weird. Right click that Internet Explorer desktop icon, select Properties and see if it has a Shortcut tab. If it does the Target narrow window should show:

"C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe"

I'm assuming that C: is the letter of the hard drive that Windows is installed on.

Ok Tufenuf

target window wont let me change...i can go to find target and browse to ie.exe and it opens up fine ...so i just deleted the old shortcut and set a new 1 and works fine...Your the man thank u sir...many thanks

This XP antivirus Pro 2010 is pretty nasty
PS:target window was set to shortcut name (internet) not drive path
