Help! my computer's screen is blank , I can only access task manager, after getting infected w/a virus.?
I only have my desktop and after hitting ctrl+alt+del, I can access the task manager but nothing else, no start button , no right click pop up menu, no desktop icons. I tried hitting F10 during startup and running the hard drive check but the test fails. I also tried reinstalling the start up disks but the computer does not recognize them (no dialog box appears just nothing happens).

I did run a virus scan before this all happened and the virus software found a trojan and I thought it was deleting it, then my computer froze up and I needed to reboot it. after the reboot everything was (and still is) gone.

Please if anyone can help offer any things to try I would really appreciate it.
im having the same problem please someone help me out!

While in the task manager click on File then New Task. In the box that comes up type in explorer.exe. That should bring up the rest of Windows.

Your virus scanner could have removed some files that are required to start up Windows. If you are able to get in then you might want to try using system restore to get your computer back to a point before you got the virus.
