Can you enter the safe mode? If so, enter it and run AVG's scan so it can delete/repair the virus.

If you can't run the antivirus from safe mode try this.

You will need one formated diskette (floppy). Download a 98 oem bootdisk file from this link http://www.bootdisk.com/bootdisk.htm to the desktop of the computer you are using now, if it has an A: drive.

Insert the formated diskette into the A: drive, click the 98 oem icon on the desktop. click run.

Once you have the bootdisk write protect it by moving the plastic slider into the locked position or the virus will attack it.

Make sure the infected computer is shutdown for 30 seconds, intsert the didkette into the A: drive, start the computer. At the option screen choose "without cd rom support", then at the A prompt type "fdisk /mbr" without the quotes and note the space after fdisk. Take only a second or two.

Remove the diskette from the computer. Shutdown the computer and restart it and see if it will work.
