ntoskrnl.exe missing/corrupt

when i try to boot pc, black screen says: <windows root>\system32\ntoskrnl.exe is missing or corrupt, please reinstall this file
i dont have a startup disk or this file on disk that i know of. any ideas?

for any solution you will probably need an XP install CD. If You can borrow one from family or friends, make SURE that you have the proper CD.
All you put on your post for specs was Win XP. If you have the XP home you need that version...XP Pro...you need that version.
Then you can start off with an sfc /scannow and if that doesn't work, you may have to do a repair install.
I refer many downloads to the majorgeeks site because they are usually more up-dated than other sites. Hopefully my advice will help you...Please post back with your results as it will help others.
