First sign I got of infection the first time was a msg "ntldr is missing. Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart". To help this, Next, I changed boot order to CD first, with Boot CD in DVD drive, and Boot from CD not pushed, Windows loads from HDD. A FEW Times ONLY. Maybe only twice. Then finally msg:
Boot from CD.......Boot from Hard Disk. and nothing happens, system hangs permanently.
After the third complete rebuild, I noticed that the volume label was changed at somepoint to include about 10 Exclamations (!) after the original designation. Then just before critical closure, the Exclamation Marks are changed to Hatches (#), and the machine is down. Dead. Rebuild required. Ive tried all the normal rebuild techniques for System restores, for any number of things. Ive tried 5 different antiviruses but it isn't even noticed. By any of them. It must be a virus of some description to change the volume label. This has been developing into a real problem over 18 months, and now, even a rebuild only lasts 2 restarts before critical failure - thats not even time to get the motherboard drivers installed.
Does Anyone out there know where to get this killed.

What do you mean by rebuild? Are you talking about formatting the harddrive and completely reinstall Windows?

Run recovery console from the CD. Format the hard drive and also run the "fixmbr" command. This will remove any and everything on the drive. Subsequent installations of Windows will be just as if yo were installing on a freshly bought hard drive.
