After my computer started spontaneously freezing on me and giving me Illgeal Operation messages every two or three minutes, I downloaded a free trial of The Cleaner...just to see if I had any viruses. The program found roughly 400 files that were courrupted by Klez.h. I cleaned them all, but I still get Illegal Operation messages, I've looked at the details, and it appears as if there is usually one type of unfamiliar .exe file causing all kinds of fualts and errors in various .dll files. A friend let me borrow his McAfee 7.0 Pro CD, which I promtly loaded and ran, only to find that all of the virus definitions were corrupted. I installed/uninstalled 3 times and finally was able to get it to run...about 3/4 of the way thru. The whole time it was pulling of dozens of files infected with Klez.h.
I don't know if I'm giving enough info (or the right info, for that matter) for a correct diagnosis or to get any real help from you guys, but if anyone can help me through this, I'd really appreciate it. I don't know if any or all of this is related, but I do know that something is absolutely raping my computer (Gateway 733, 2G, 64MB), and right now it's totally useless to me.
Does any of my hardware need to be replaced? Should I take this opportunity to upgrade? Should I toss my tower out of the window?
Thanks.
Thomas A

Go to http://www.symantec.com/ and get the removal tool for the KLEZ. One of the things the KLEZ does is it disables antivirus programs.
