notepad virus o rwhat?

CPU/Ram: intel 865gvhz 512 mb ram

when i try to open any media or other file adn right click it to find open with option.when i click on open with option it opens in note pad.it doesnt so any option what to do to fix this

thanks for the response but im sorry to say that i already tried it but it didnt work.when i run that iit says it is a win32 run error

Sounds like a bunch of Windows registry corruptions to me.
File associations (which seem to be the problem here) are
handled by the registry and it's that which relates
associations to applications to open them in. You clearly
have some kind of defect which is forcing everything to open
in Notepad.

Download a registry scanner and let it clean up the mess,
making sure to keep a backup of the current registry before
you do. Hope that helps.
