Need some help but please put help in laymans terms. Most of the info on this site is definitely over my head but I figured you guys could help. If a open my task manager I find that Mpfagent.exe is taking 99% of my CPU processing on a continual basis. I know this is the McAfee software doing it's job but it makes my PC run at a snails pace. Is there anything I can do to fix this? Please send an email to me if possible. I'm not sure how to view the responses to this on the site. Thanks so much for any help you can offer!

that is your personal firewall. You can probably turn it off if you have the XP firewall enabled. Make sure it is first:

1. Start
2. Control Panel
3. Network Connections
4. If the Local Internet Connection doesn't say "Firewalled" then right click the icon and select properties. If, it does say "Firewalled" your good to go. So skip to step 6.
5. Tap the Advanced tab and check the box that says "protect my computer..." then, click apply and OK to close the window.
6. Open Mcaffee and turn of the personal firewall.

That should do the trick, you might want to jump in MSCONFIG and take it out of the startup if present. gdlk

McAfee has a tendency to use up alot of resources. I would uninstall it completely, but like was previously said in response 1, turn on windows XP firewall.
Then I would d/l
Sygate Personal Firewall
which is free and is also user friendly and doesn't use up too much resources. If you plan to use Sygate, remember to turn OFF your windows XP firewall, because it's better to run just Sygate.

Hopefully my advice will help you...Please post back with your results....thanks

I would start with a download that audits and scans and monitors your registery processes, like
REGISTRY PROT from http://www.diamondcs.com.au/index.php?page=regprot

What do have on boot?
With a high processing rate like that, I would look at at the program being corrupt.
Software cannot run like that and be successful. You may want to consider a spyware scan and virus and trojan scans too.
Are any of your other processes running high?
A good free firewall is ZONE ALARM FREE.
Windows firewall is only one direction capable, so it is of limited value.
Consider background work on your PC too, if any tasks are running at that time and perhaps causing a conflict.
