Nortons wreaked havoc

I recently purchased Norton Antivirus and all I can say is that it has somehow deleted some registry keys upon startup and a dreaded blue screen, and now I cannot open Outlook. When I try and open outlook it says
"...microsoft\outlook\outlook.pst is not a personal folders file.

System restore has had no effect and starting up has turned into a circus of error messages on various programmes.

Any ideas? If I uninstall Norton will this restore original files.

I cannot see any other choice, but to uninstall Norton. Hopefully it will solve your problem. If you have done a system restore, make sure you elect to undo the restoration before you remove Norton. Then uninstall Norton. If you still have trouble try another system restore to point long before you installed Norton.

thank you for the replies.

Firstly uninstalling Norton does not seem to have rectified anything as I am still receiving error messages for outlook and start-up is still awash with windows on changed registry keys.

Previous to loading Norton Antivirus I purchased Adaware and had run deep scans. It did find some malicious content but all was clean before loading NA.

Does this mean I will have to re-install windows again?

My outlook contains a lot of info for work and if it's lost will obviously stitch me up a bit. Is there anywhere I can see whether folders actually exist with data from emails as I have tried to search for them but had no luck. The outlook .pst files are very small.

Once again thank you for the response. This is my first forum communication.

On-line Spyware Scan
That may shed some light on your problem. Remove all the problems it finds

Ok I will offer my expert advice. :P

First, backup your emails before you continue to fiddle with settings and programs.

http://www.amicutilities.com/outlook-express-backup/

You can use that free for 14 days, so if you use it, you have to restore before the time runs out.

Or manually copy the files in this folder to a safe place, cd or floppy,

C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Local Settings\Application Data\Identities\{83E72A69-7D41-4D73-BCD4-58F811042629}\Microsoft\Outlook Express

That wierd numbers and letters maybe different on your machine.


I could probablly help recover your pc, if you offer a detailed explanation of what happens when you turn on the pc. Like specific messages, errors, blue screens, ect...
