Hello.

I have Symantec/ Norton's Antivirus 2005. In the past, I've had versions from 2002 & 2003, and inevitably, I always seem to run into some kind of glitch or bug with their Live Update feature. Here's what's happening now:

I am able to retrieve all updates (virus definitions, etc.) EXCEPT for one, and it fails along with this error message:

Norton AntiVirus Internet Worm Protection Signature Updates: LU1806

- and then, when I click on the "plus +" sign next to this:

Intrusion Detection Signature Update: LU1821

I went to Symantec's web site, searched their Knowledge Base, wrote them an e-mail to their tech department, and no luck yet. What their tech department suggested was to completely un-install Live Update and delete it's folders. Symantec freely admits that their Live Update feature frequently malfunctiobns and will not work. That's heartening. I then re-installed the latest version of Live Update.

Anyway, I did in detail as they said, and I'm fairly proficient with computers; I put my own systems together. Still, Live Update fails to retrieve that one update I listed above.

Anyone else experience this same problem? Any workaround or suggestion? I e-mailed Symantec back and am awaiting a response; their next suggestion will probably be to un-install ALL of the Norton program and then to re-install it. Yeah, THAT'S always fun.

Anyone? Tips? Suggestions?

Thanks,
Pez

Strong suggestion - move over from Norton Antivirus to NOD32. Download a free 30 day trial from their website. NOD32 automatically, not only updates the definitions for the life of your subscription, it also updates the PROGRAM. You DO NOT have to buy a new program every year like NORTON. Secondly, NORTON slows your computer down, anywhere up to 43%!! Thirdly, we have found a vast majority of Norton users have been blocked by the Hackers. This also applies to McAfee, AVG and Avast and in Canada - Freedom. We have had NOD32 blocked in only one of our many customers in the last year and a half. The problem you are having is probably related to a past hacking of one of your older Nortons you had installed. Try the NOD32 - what's there lose - if you don't like it - remove it after the 30 days, but you might be surprised to find the NOD32 will clean out a bunch of viruses and Trojans that NAV was missing! Also do a cleanup with CounterSpy and SpySweeper - again the trials versions are fully funtional and will probably speed up your system after the cleanup.
