I got the DAMN LU1848 error last year. It was an EASY fix. Norton help is USELESS!!! I found somewhere online a site that I was able to download a DLL file, Now I do not remember the name. EASY directions to put where it belonged.
Renamed the old DLL file of the same name and ran update. WALA, it worked!! NOW I need that DLL file again after a year and CAN'T find the damn thing.
It was so simple to fix with that DLL file.
DAMN!!!!!!!!!!!!
Any clues????????

This question has nothing to do with Security & Virus. I have seen this before. LU1848 error is often nothing more than a camouflage for Norton/Symantec servers being down. Wait a while or a day and try again.

Oh BTW the same thing happened with M$ WGA servers being down over this past weekend. It wrongly told thousands of Vista & XP users all over the world that your copy of Windows is not genuine. Sh*t like this happens.

ednorton, if it was me, if you are using your PC for home use, I would give Avast Free a shot. Much better real-time AV with webshield and not as much of a resource hog like Norton.

You could D/L Avast free :
http://www.avast.com/eng/download-a...
Turn off Norton, install Avast and let it do a bootscan on reboot. You'll be amazed at what Norton missed....make sure to move all problems to the chest.

If you wnat to continue using Norton, just go into msconfig and uncheck all the avast entries from start-up.

If you want to use Avast, you'll have to use the Norton uninstaller from their website and also use recleaner:
http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4...
to make sure ALL remnants of Norton are removed, or NO other AV's and firewalls will work properly.

What I use is:
Avast Free
Comodo Pro Firewall (free)
Spyware Terminator (free) for real-time spyware protection.
They all work great together without bogging down your PC.

The choice is yours

Some HELP in posting on Cnet plus free progs and instructions Glad to Help!

Seems pretty helpful to me. :) Or, you could try just uninstalling and reinstalling Live Update.

Life's more painless for the brainless.
