Excuse my ignorance but I'm kind of new to Norton. My Norton anti-virus says the virus definitions are out of date, as does the Norton Firewall under the Norton Antivirus menu. I ran live update several times and it does not change anything. I even did a manual download from the website and still nothing. What's going on?
...my subscription is good for 3 more months...

I've been experienced with Nortan for quite some time now. Your problem is not an un-common one I'm afraid. You could try un-installing then re-installing Nortan then download the updates again. But this might take some of your time.

How can the INTELLIGENT UPDATER fail?
Go to: http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/defs.download.htmland download to desktop and then double click. Simple enough.
Then it updates your definitions.
Unless your PC is having download problems itself like a firewall blocking it or the IE settings preventing the access.

I tried the website for the second time and still nothing. Everything seems to work but you go to status and it says error and still says the definitions need updated.

Live update is working ok for me, also the Intelligent updater is ok also. Downloading the definitions as of this minute.

1) Go to the search box at the top of this page.
2) enter NORTON LIVEUPDATE. Press SEARCH
3) Read the nighmares that other people have had.
4) GO get another antivirus programme.
NORTON got my $30 this year, and I'm running AVG now. The Norton Nightmare, it should be called.

Ok.... here is what is going on... Norton will not update. First if you are connected through broadband dsl/cable and have a firewall you are blocking port 1027. It should say C:\Progra~1\Norton~1\navapw32.exe
If you are blocking this port you will never be able to update. The previous post mentioned intelligent updater. This will work if you just follow his link or this one. http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/download.html
