Norton will not run liveupdate

I'm trying to update my virus definitions but it will not do it citing that during the update "File: C:\PROGRA~1\NORTON~1\NAVOpts.dl^ could not be updated"

Are you clicking on the "Live Update" button? If so, go to Symantec's website and update your definitions from there.

I am...and looking at it more carefully i see "Couldn't create callback object." when first opening liveupdate...what could this mean?

Usually liveupdate gives an error message with a link to the problem identified.
