Norton uninstall registry entries ?

March 3, 2010 at 06:01:27
Specs: Microsoft Windows XP Professional, 2.793 GHz / 3070 MB

After uninstalling my Norton Security Suite and going for one of Freeware anti-virus apps (Microsoft Essentials). I decided to browse thru the registry to look for registry keys still listed related to Norton /Symantec !
Under HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT I found several registry keys that start out with NAV for example NAVCfgWizDll.NAVCfgWizMgr and NAVCfgWizDll.NAVCfgWizMgr.1
and one more example NAVComUI.AxListViewCtrl , in all there are at least seven or so ,also ebay has alot of entries under HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT, I have not used ebay nor even been to their web site in a few years ,have zero software installed relating to ebay ? There are numerous entries that look like they are left overs from uninstalled apps etc. Is it better for me to just leave these alone ,Iam aware a mistake with removing registry keys can render your PC a paper weight ! At the same time how are these unnessasary keys effecting the performance of my PC ? Thanks to All that reply ,sorry if Iam being a pain !
Take Care Nick

... you can download Norton uninstallers from "symantec" which are updated they even expire after a while, and should remove entries.... bear that in mind for the future.

Thank You for the link to glaryutilities ,I went to the web site and it looks like a good app that Iam seriously consideirng adding to my PC . I already have the latest version of CCleaner a freeware app that seems to perform most of thae same action as glary's however CCleaner has not reported any obsolete registry entries ,which it obviously has ? I only went a took a quick look at the web site added it to my favorites and will return later to read somemore and then decide if I want to dowmload it . Thank You Very Much
Nick
