Norton not Scanning

Norton 2002. I have a clean system, ran two different online scans yesterday, nothing. I start Norton, tell it to scan and it pops up the window, the litle light bar on the right goes into action but no scanning takes place, it just sits. Am behind a firewall and router. The only change was adding the Google toolbar.
