For the last 2 days I've been having a problem with Norton AV. At boot I get a connect box and Norton doesn't/won't load until I go on line. If I cancel the connect I can't even get Norton to open using the icon or start menu. Instead I get a connect box. If I go on line it loads and opens but is still slow to respond. If I go off line and try to open it, using the icon, start menu or task bar, again I get the same connect box and it refuses to open until I do connect. If I just keep canceling the connect keeps popping up every 5 minutes or so until I connect.

I've run on line virus scans through housecalls, PC Pitstop and Norton and got a clean bill of health from all so I'm sure it isn't a virus.

I've tried searching their knowledgebase and found one that sounded kind of like what's happening so I followed the instructions up to and including uninstall/reinstall. It didn't help. I really don't want to pay them $30 so they can tell me they have programmed it to "phone home" to make sure it's a legal copy but it's beginning to look like that's what's happening!

I'm ready to trash Norton and go with ANYTHING that doesn't create this problem! Can anyone help?????

Hello Brenda,
I think you have only a little problem related with your program Internet Explorer.
Which version do you run into your computer ?
The version you should have today is the 6.0 SP Pack 1, which include all the new security update preconised by Microsoft.
If you have already this version, you can try the "repair" option embaded into the program to check if you don't have a file of this program corrupted or damaged:
Go to your control panel, open "add & remove programs", find line "internet explorer and his tools", open it, 3 options avalaibles, one is "repair", send the program, IE will scan itself and will repair any file missing, corrupted or damaged, you will need to reboot when the procedure will end.
Good luck ...

I'm running IE 5.5 sp2 but have been "forever" and this just started in the last 2 days. Plus, Norton is the only program that seems to be involved in this "connect or I won't work" problem.

Could you please explain why you think it's a browser problem?

Brenda, See my Response Number 3 at the link below. You're not alone with the Norton problem and the Temporary Fix should correct your problem also.

Well! To Norton I say "I'm sorry I assumed" and to all here I say "thanks a bunch". I am now back to normal again! I guess a call to my ISP is in order to give them a little push to get the new certificate!

Again, big thanks to all!
