Comment:

I'm having trouble getting Norton antivirus to do a system scan. I'm constantly on alert because I haven't performed a full system scan, but when I click the "scan now" button, the hourglass cursor appears for a few seconds and then goes away, and then nothing happens. I've tried scheduling full system scans and custom scans, and this doesn't work either. I've also reinstalled Norton, but this doesn't help either. Thanks!

Than trash and dont user Norton's products again. Sorry, I can't hold it :))...so many problems with Norton's.

The best AV ever nowadays are: either NOD32, Kaspersky, or BitDefender.

I have been using Norton for years but have to agree. Trash it and go to NOD32. Horton has become a piece of crap.

Make sure that you have the latest version of "liveupdate" installed. It is available from the downloads area at this address
http://www.symantec.com/downloads/

There is a major security flaw in all Symantec products, so be sure you get the patch from Symantec to fix the problem. I do not use Norton due to service issues, but it is still a good program and is in the top ten at my favorite testing site that is in Greece. Kaspersky is number one.

Hey, thanks for your responses. Where can I get hooked up with NOD 32 or Kaspersky (I've never heard of either), and how much will it set me back?

Norton hsa gone way donw lately. I used to use it exclusively and actually their corp version is still okay but, even that isnt what it used ot be. Give Trend Micro a try, better than any of the others mentioned.

Look here for the AV benchmarked: http://www.av-comparatives.org/index.html?http://www.av-comparatives.org/seiten/comparatives.html

For the heuristics (in order to detect unknown viruses): NOD32 is unbeatable.

For the best scanning and updated database: Kaspersky is the king.

For the speed and resources management: NOD32 is the best one on the field.

NOD32 is cheaper than Kaspersky (almost 50% cheaper)

NOD32 is the best one for my taste.
