Comment:

I've been using NAV forever, had 2003 version installed and not due for update untill next month. All of a sudden I can't use Live Update. I get the following message:

The following Symantec products and components are installed on your computer.
> Ad Blocking Content Updates
> Ad Blocking Program Updates
> AntiSpam Core Components
> LiveUpdate
> Norton AntiSpam Definitions Updates
> Norton AntiSpam Program Updates
> Norton AntiVirus
> Norton AntiVirus Virus Definitions
> Norton CleanSweep 2002
> ScriptBlocking
> Subscription Services
> Symantec Common Client Updates
> Symantec Common Driver: SymEvent
> Symantec Redirector
> Symantec Security Response Submission Software Updates
> Symantec Shared Components

Initializing...
Connecting to liveupdate.symantecliveupdate.com...

Unable to connect to host
LU1803: LiveUpdate had an internal error while getting your updates. Your Symantec programs were not updated.

You should try getting updates at a later time. If LiveUpdate fails again with this error, you should re-install LiveUpdate.
LiveUpdate session is complete.

I've done all the fixes, EVERYTHING! Even unistalled 2003, bought the new 2004...install went fine. But when I went to do Live Update I got the same error message. Symantics is closed on weeekends and after 5 pm on weekdays. I don't get home until after that. No help from them!

My virus definitions are only up to 8/2003 now and I can't use my email program until I get this fixed...

Can anyone help?

I had this problem before and the way i sorted it was to reindtall the whole lot. (I had nis). If not go to symantec site and search Live Update 2.0 and install that.
Im not sure if it will work i am just guessing but until then update manually as discussed above. I hope it gets sorted out for you.

One other thing to check is the Symantec Liveupdate setting that is in the Control Panel. There are two options; Express and Interactive, try using the Express setting.

I got that same 1803 error before too and after some research on Symantec's site, this link helped me out.

LU1803 Error

If that doesn't help you out, search their knowledge base for "LU1803" using this link.

Symantec Tech Support

Hope this helps!

I am having problems with my Norton AV2004 running LiveUpdate automatically. I just read this thread and just now checked the express setting.Should I check either or both of the express settings boxes below that? I am not getting any errors and I can run Live Update manually, but it never runs it automatically, even though I have that option enabled in the Norton AV settings.

If you are using XP, check the first box "automatically start the session", and check the box "enable enhanced error". HTH

Solution found!!!

If this problem has occured after you update to the latest version of LiveUpdate - Like it did for me in NAV 2004 prof

Go to the Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Symantec

Delete the whole LiveUpdate directory
Go into Commone Client and delete all the files you can (there may be one that says it can't be deleted because it is in use)

Now run LiveUpdate

This should fix the problems

Hope it works for you like it did for me.

I am having this issue also. I have tried to reinstall and also deleting those folders. I cannot delete them, it says they are being used.

I had an issue and Norton told me to update to the latest version of LU (2.0). I should have known better. I have had issues in the past with 2.0. I am going to remove it and install the older version. The one that I never have issues with!

I am having the same kind of problem,
but beside the live update, I couldn't
even run Norton Antivirus 2004.
I did the uninstall and remove all the symantec and norton antivirus folder then reinstall again, DIdnt work.
Somehow when I reinstall, it didnt ask for serial number again.
Help... I am out of ideas
