Hi all, Im trying to install norton corporate edition onto my network so on my server i can have the system centre and the rest the client antivirus, when i try to install the system centre onto my server it says not onto a terminal server? any idea why this is?

what version of Norton and what version of term serv? also, how are you installing on ts, via add remove or just running the cd? who are you logged in as when installing and are you physically at the server or trying to deply to the server?

I hope you never have to uninstall this program. I ran a network for awhile with Norton Corp on about 200 pc's. When the company switched to a different antivirus, I tried uninstalling Norton. Apparantly, they make it so you have to manually edit the registry (about 100 or so entries) to remove the corp version. Not sure if it was a bug on every one of the 200 machines or what. So be for warned, the uninstall might be a nightmare. I wrote a batch program to do this automatically, if your interested, I will try to dig it up, so you could have it "just in case", let me know.

i think allws well now actually, ive chatted to a few techie guys and they said i can install the system centre on a terminal server, it has to be on one of the client pc's, not sure hwy, lol, so ill just do that, thanks for the warning about removing, but ill probly be ok, ill probly end up formattin the computers before i need a newer version, lol, although if u have any tips on setting up antivirus on networks id appreciate it, im new to all this, i havent even a clue of the advanatges to using the client versions on each pc rarther than the standard piece of softweare, lo.
Cheers

the advantages are simple. you have a centrailzed server that downloads updates and pushes them out to the clietn machnes on a scheduled basis, has a central quarantine, the admin has control over the clients so they cant make changes/disable/uninstall it if you dont want them too/remote deployment of software to client pcs/etc (really too many advantages to list in a corp environment). Norton corporate is a great solution and it works very well when deplyed correctly. I used it for years and never had any roblems with it and would still be using it had it not been for a conflict with out NSI Doubletake disaster recovery site (Norton has a flaw in their code in tcp IP that makes it have issues with this setup). Anyway, it worked great and I had none of the uninstall issues that the previous post mentioned so you may be okay there. We went to Trend Micro and it is the only one Ive seen that is as good as Symantec and I tested a ton of them.
