Comment: please please help, i'm going mad with the following program alert from norton internet security 2007- does anyone know what it means. "system is attempiting to access another system using netbios file and print sharing" it is on port 138 some background on it - it only does it when i have a router attached, rather than a modem, it does not come up with norton 2005 only the 2007 version. i do not have any other computers linked to my router or never have had. i dont share files or printers.

Reply: (edit)What changed on your computer between the time it didn't show and when it started to? Do you have file and print sharing enabled? You should be able to go into the configuration in NIS and allow access to that port. Or, you can check Symantec's site or email them for support. Always best to go right to the horse. Life's more painless for the brainless.

Reply: (edit)it only comes up if i have my router attached, but not if i have my speedtouch modem attached. it also only comes up with the program alert with norton internet security 2007, i have the 2005 version but that does not show an alert, nor is it in the program control. i do have file and print sharing enabled although i do not share files or printers. i can allow that port to access, but it concerns me as to what program is making it try to access. i have contacted symantec on this a few times, they could not be bothered and told me to speak to microsoft.

Reply: (edit)Why do you have file and print sharing enabled when you do not share files or printers? Can't you just turn it off? I guess Symantec is right - I believe you will understand why it's more of M$ problem once you have read & grasp the following lengthy article. http://www.pc-help.org/www.nwintern... i_Xp/VistaUser
