My gal has NIS 2003. Does anyone know if 2005 is a significantly better engine, or if it has a broader AV database? If it does not, then I'm going to recommend she stay with 2003, if it's still supported with updates. Installation and uninstallation of NIS can be a nightmare, so I'm leery of upgrading. She doesn't need the spam/parental control features, so it's just AV/Firewall that I'm asking about, although the suite is cheaper than AV/Firewall separately. If we go outside Norton, I've got that covered.
Any comments?
Thanks

Not exactly what you are asking, but I'm still running Norton AntiVirus 2002 (with Virus Definition Updates subscription renewed year by year of course) and I am fully protected using the Win XP SP2 MS firewall.
Never got a Virus or Trojan/Worm, so I suggest to keep NIS 2003 alive as new Symantec releases add only marginal improvememts.

IVO "never got a virus or trojan/worm"
For starters your system has been up for how long without full OS restore? and also you seem to put trojan/worm in the same category!!? Viruses have more of a percent then AV's do31337

Never needed an OS restore, my system runs without crashes since its first boot (September 2002, 7 hours/day 6 days/week) and since then it has suffered many upgrades both hardware and software.
Obviously I take great care before attempting changes and never start without a full understanding of what I'm going to do (you can't believe but I read manuals and documentation before...).
And yes... I surf but mainly clean sites and my downloads are mostly scientific ones (however I'm not a Virgin).

But for 3 years never having a virus?? even if you never download anything for that period of time being online alone is enough to get one.you could make your system very protected against all sorts but even some viruses and trojans can pass all AV's and all Firewalls

White Hat, don't kid your self. I've got a full network here with NAV 2002 and a hardware firewall.
Online 24/7 for 10 years, weekly reboots, no viruses, EVER.

I run win xp on P-IV 1.7 ghz with 256 md ram.Recently i purchased Norton Av 2005 and NIS 2005. When I tried to install NIS After i had installed NAV i keep getting some problems.NIS removes NAV and Installs it's Version of NAV which is again NAv2005.After restatring to complete the setup Nav does not run.Is there any way i can install NIS seperately without installing NAV.
