Non-System disk or disk error

December 2, 2009 at 14:13:12
Specs: Windows XP
When I try to boot my Compaq Evo N410c Lap Top, I keep getting “Non-System disk or disk error replace and strike any key when ready”, but I don’t have any non-system disks in my boot device.

I suspect a virus / malware is the cause, but not sure.

Can anyone please help me?

Thanks in advance.

It could be simply that you have a floppy disk stuck in and it is trying to boot from it. If so eject it. If not then your hard drive is either no longer bootable or not connected.

Double check your connections on the drive.

If it is not the connection try booting from the Windows Install disk then goto the Recovery Console and run CHKDSK C: to make sure the drive is not damaged. You may have to do a repair install of windows. If so then click here...

Also how to use the recovery console...

As always with this level of damage I recommend you get some one to help you or take it in to a repair shop because if you are not careful you could lose data.

If your computer has installed a floppy drive, remove the disk from floppy drive and try again.
